PROBLEM

THE PROBLEM:

INFUSION CONFUSION

IV confusion

In plain terms, is a tangled mess of IV lines. A patient can have five to fifteen lines in process at one time. These lines become easily entwined and disorganized, leading to confusion and possible error.

In a MedLite study, 60% of infusions contained one or more errors. IV labeling and tubing accounted for approximately 65% of the mistakes, the most frequent being attributed to infusion confusion.

In fact, 61% of the most serious and life-threatening potential ADEs are IV drug-related.

Infusion-related errors are estimated to add $2 billion dollars annually to U.S. healthcare costs.

THE SOLUTION:

LINE SORT

Solution to IV confusion

LINE SORT can lower risk, minimize errors, help save lives and reduce liability for hospitals & medical professionals.

By placing LINE SORT at multiple critical points along infusion lines—such as the top near the pump, the middle, and the end near the patient port—it ensures that lines remain organized and easy to trace. This organization significantly reduces the time spent identifying the correct line, prevents unnecessary delays, and lowers the likelihood of operator confusion.

Proper line management with LINE SORT not only streamlines workflows but also helps prevent potentially catastrophic errors, contributing to safer and more efficient patient care.

LINE SORT was born out of a deeply personal experience. While my mother was hospitalized with stage 4 sepsis, I watched as nurses tirelessly worked to manage her care. One challenge stood out: the tangled, chaotic web of IV lines running from the infusion pump to my mom's ports. Nurses spent wasted time tracing lines, often needing to retrace their steps just to find the correct connection.

Day after day, my father and I saw how this disorganization created unnecessary frustration and delays. I couldn’t help but think, There has to be a better way.

After researching existing solutions and finding none that met the need, I set out to create one myself. Observing the nurses in action, I realized that any solution had to be adaptable—something that could move fluidly with the patient’s body and not be fixed to the bed.

With that insight, I designed prototypes and had the nursing staff test them. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive: LINE SORT saved valuable time, reduced frustration, and allowed nurses to focus on patient care instead of untangling lines.

Today, LINE SORT is committed to improving IV line management in hospitals and beyond, helping healthcare professionals provide the care patients need without unnecessary obstacles.

Thank you for joining us on this journey to make a difference in patient care.
