Planning a practical staff orientation for the LINE-SORT® IV line organizer

Prepare the demonstration

Have the unit educator or clinical lead review the current Directions for Use and facility policies before teaching use of the LINE-SORT IV line organizer. Use a training setup with the tubing and equipment selected for the unit. Keep a sample pad, approved labeling materials, and the instructions available so staff can practice and ask questions.

Show one complete setup

Walk through tubing fit, placement, labeling, and access checks in the order staff would encounter them. Use the product instructions for spacing and application rather than creating a separate local version from memory. Show that an organized appearance does not replace tracing or verification.

Ask staff to demonstrate the steps

A return demonstration gives the educator something specific to review. Adapt the prompts to your facility’s competency process:

  • Find the instructions and identify the tubing selected for the demonstration.
  • Place and label the pad using the approved instructions and unit policy.
  • Check tubing visibility, access, and slack in the training setup.
  • Explain what needs reassessment when the patient or equipment moves.
  • Locate replacement stock and explain the single-use handling requirements.

Make questions easy to resolve

Record questions that the demonstration does not answer, such as fit with another tubing set or an unusual equipment position. Assign them to the educator, policy owner, or product contact. Do not turn an unverified workaround into a teaching point.

Reach the next shift and new staff

Decide who will orient staff who miss the first session and where the current reference will be stored. Include float and newly hired staff in the plan. Keep a record of the instruction version and any local policy references so later sessions teach the same approach. The department training guide can support this orientation alongside the Directions for Use.
