The SORT Protocol™
The bedside routine that gives the LINE-SORT® IV line organizer its name.
Establish an organized, labeled pathway at application and maintain that reference for the same IV lines between applications. The SORT Protocol supports your facility's requirements for tracing, verification, and handoff.
Download the SORT Protocol sheet (PDF)Separate. Organize. Reconcile. Trace.

Separate
One line, one channel. Keep lines parallel and untangled, with slack to move freely.
Organize
Use a minimum of two LINE-SORT pads per set of IV lines, approximately 12–15 inches apart along the tubing pathway, depending on the clinical setup.
Reconcile
Confirm every line matches its active medication or fluid order, per facility policy. Mismatch? Stop, correct, recheck.
Trace
Follow your facility's tracing protocol. Trace and verify IV lines before administration or adjustment, in accordance with facility policy.
Check placement as care changes
Reassess placement when the patient, equipment, or tubing configuration changes.

- During active care
- Trace and verify each line and connection according to facility policy before administration or adjustment.
- During repositioning
- After turning or moving a patient, reassess pad placement, tubing alignment, and slack. Visual checks do not replace line tracing and verification.
- During transport
- Reassess placement during transfer and transport. Keep tubing, connections, and access points visible and accessible, without tension.
The LINE-SORT IV line organizer is a single-use IV line organization aid, used at the point of care to separate, align, and visually organize IV tubing.
Simple by design
Staff orientation and handling
Keep the current Directions for Use accessible to staff, alongside your facility’s labeling, tracing, and verification policies.
- Training guide included
- Case orders include a department training guide for introducing the device and the four-step routine.
- Single-use at the bedside
- Single-patient use and supplied non-sterile. Each pad is discarded between patients and is never reused or reprocessed.
The LINE-SORT IV line organizer is not intended to deliver fluids, regulate flow, or replace any primary medical device, line tracing procedures, or clinical judgment.

Put the routine to work
Estimate your unit's supply needs.
The SORT Score estimates pad utilization and tubing spend potentially exposed to premature replacement using your facility's inputs. It does not measure the effectiveness of the SORT Protocol or predict guaranteed savings.
