For the LINE-SORT® IV line organizer, a useful label must be correct, readable, and located where staff expect to find it. Use this review with your unit’s labeling policy and applicable device instructions.
Follow your facility's labeling policy
- Use approved label content, abbreviations, and placement for each line and therapy.
- Keep required labels legible without obscuring tubing, connections, or access points.
- Use the organizer’s designated label area according to its instructions.

Review labels as care changes
Recheck label accuracy and legibility when therapy or tubing changes and during handoffs. Ask whether the label still describes the connected line and whether staff can read it from the working position. Resolve unclear, outdated, or conflicting identification according to facility policy rather than carrying the uncertainty into the next handoff.
Make the labeling convention easy to teach
Use a training sample to show the approved wording, writing location, and how a label is handled when a line changes. Have staff locate and read each label with the sample arranged as it would be used on the unit. If staff interpret a label differently, bring the example to the educator or policy owner before standardizing it.
Re-verify, don't assume
Labels do not replace line tracing or verification. Trace each line to its source and confirm connections per protocol, particularly after line changes, handoffs, and transport.
